Holguín hosts event to mark the World Heart Day

Under the motto “Mind, soul, body and heart, united, for better health,” the Cuban eastern province of Holguín will host the First Provincial Conference on Cardiology, on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day and the World Heart Day to be celebrated on September 21 and 29, respectively.


Sponsored by the Holguín Chapters of the Cuban Society of Cardiology, and Neurology and Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Family Medicine; the Provincial Coordinating Group of Non-Communicable Diseases and the University of Medical Sciences (UCMHo), the event will be held in person and its first objective is to provide an update, focused on therapeutics, on heart failure and atrial fibrillation, as major chronic syndromes in Cardiology, Diabetes Mellitus and Alzheimer's.

In addition, it will insist on the role of nutrition on the quality of the intestinal flora and preventive actions against atherosclerotic and hypertensive damage; as well as it plans to transmit the vision of premature aging as a basic problem for global health and the essential comprehensive approach necessary to confront it.

Dr. Reyber Jesús Domínguez Pérez, president of the Holguín Chapter of the Cuban Society of Cardiology (CH.SCC), said that the event will have the participation of specialists and residents doctors, nursing graduates and other personnel from the sector related to the topics for debate in the scientific session, to be held on the 29th, in the theater of the V.I. Lenin university hospital.

The program of the event includes conferences on heart failure, an update on Diabetes Mellitus and its therapy; effect of nutrition on the quality of the intestinal microbiota, atrial fibrillation and a round table entitled "Prevention of cardiovascular diseases associated with premature aging", among other topics.

This year the World Heart Federation promotes the celebration of September 29, World Heart Day, with call for everyone to take care of this essential organ, for which it insists on being attentive to cardiovascular disease (CVD), the main cause of death on the planet.
