Medicine career shows its strengths in re-accreditation process

The Holguín University of Medical Sciences has reaffirmed its strength during the external evaluation process carried out by a team of experts from the National Accreditation Board (JAN), for the re-accreditation of the Medicine degree after nine years to be certified.
From April 10 to 14, members of the JAN have carried out comprehensive exams to students in third, fourth and fifth years of study; group interview with students of all years, meeting with professors, tutors and advisors, visits to classrooms, laboratories, student residence, central areas of the Faculty of Medicine; as well as conversations with graduates of the last five years and their employers.
However, one of the activities with the greatest impact was the tour of the provincial hospitals, teaching centers of territorial and national reference, where they participated in the medical visit to the admission rooms and other areas related to the preparation of the human resources.
This participation in processes related to teaching allowed the specialists to verify compliance with the quality parameters provided for in the evaluation, with emphasis on the five essential variables of the Medicine degree program, such as relevance and social impact of the university community in order to solve health problems; qualification and continuous improvement of the faculty and the work of the student body in the research area.
Dr. George Velázquez Zúñiga, dean of the Mariana Grajales Cuello Faculty of Medical Sciences, explained that they were able to show the strenght achieved by the House of Higher Studies and other training centers, where there are qualified personnel and advanced technologies, which impact the resolutive capacity in care, research and professional improvement.
As one of the achievements of the stage, the excellent participation of students and teachers in confronting the epidemiological situation linked to Dengue and the COVID-19 pandemic was highlighted, thus ratifying the academic preparation, responsibility, humanism and commitment in the solutions to the health problems of the population.
In the same way, the increase in the scientific, technical and pedagogical level of the faculty was recognized, which contributes to the quality of the educational teaching process here.
Velázquez pointed out that they have worked in the last nine years to undertake this process, whose results will bring greater national and international prestige to this House of Higher Studies, where 4,099 doctors have graduated in the last five years and currently has an enrollment of more than 3 thousand 500 students.
