The province of Holguín, although with fewer positive cases of dengue and COVID-19 reported in the last week, maintains a worrying epidemiological situation, for which it is necessary to continue with prevention measures and increase control and supervision in the communities as the main alternative to avoid getting sick.
This territory is among the seven Cuban provinces with the largest number of Aedes aegypti foci, with mosquito infestation rates of 0.66 and with dispersion of the vector in the 14 municipalities, although Holguín, Gibara, “Calixto García” , Moa, Sagua de Tánamo, “Urbano Noris”, Cueto, Mayarí and “Rafael Freyre” are the ones with the highest incidence.
Regarding COVID-19, this eastern province maintains a similar behavior, when a total of 31 positives were reported in week 38, with an incidence rate of 3.1 per 100,000 inhabitants and although the number of autochthonous cases decreased by 35 .4 percent, the average number of daily cases diagnosed was 4.4.
In the week analyzed, confirmed contacts predominate with 22 cases against 20 in the previous period, within this group, extra-domiciliary contacts contribute 95.5 percent.
However, there are no active events and 26 outbreak controls have been reported, mainly in the municipalities of Holguín, Moa, Rafael Freyre, Calixto García, Frank País and Sagua de Tánamo; however, Báguanos, Cacocum and Urbano Noris report zero cases.
According to the latest statistical report from the Provincial Health Directorate, there are 21 hospitalized patients confirmed with COVID-19, 20 of them in care centers; while 12 suspects are hospitalized.
Given this scenario, Holguín residents must assume the established prevention measures against both dengue and the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which must start from personal and family responsibility, to avoid getting sick and facing a complication.
