The province of Holguín is facing a complex epidemiological situation due to the increase in positives for COVID-19 and dengue transmission in several municipalities.
Dr. Yanelis Calviño Vega, head of the Health Directorate Post, said that this territory has been among the first in the country with sustained reports of COVID-19 cases in high risk groups, mainly of infants under two years of age and pregnant women, and stressed the need to take extreme care measures.
She recalled that COVID-19 has shown to be constantly mutating and in the province there have been different variants and sub-variants. "Children of pediatric ages, specifically those under two years of age, have not been vaccinated, which is why greatest care is required, respecting the measures oriented both towards them, as well as the family and the population in general".
Calviño recalled that the use of the nasobuco (face mask) in health centers, day care centers, closed premises and in crowds of the public, among other places where required, is mandatory.
Regarding the situation with dengue, she reported that the municipalities of Moa, Cueto, "Urbano Noris", Holguín, "Rafael Freyre" and Sagua de Tánamo are in transmission with a complicated scenario; as well as Gibara and Mayarí, where in the last 10 days the number of patients has increased.
In this regard, she pointed out that patients with indeterminate fever or other symptoms are admitted to the home under the supervision of the family doctor and nurse and multidisciplinary teams linked to the health areas, but in case of alarm signs such as vomiting, abdominal pain, fainting, irritability, drowsiness or bleeding are immediately hospitalized in centers with rooms equipped for the specialized care of these patients.
The doctor stressed that in both COVID-19 and dengue, the most important thing is prevention.
