The numbers of confirmed and suspected patients admitted, 370 and 305, respectively, are the highest reported in Holguín since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, as by the end of Monday the eastern territory added 39 more cases, including one imported case.
COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in various healthcare centers, according to a medical evaluation, of low or high risk, those with the highest incidence (191) who remain in the Fermín Valdés Domínguez military hospital and the Lucía Íñiguez Landín surgical hospital in this city.
Of them, four are reported in a critical stable condition and one patient is in seriously stable condition, all assisted in the Intensive Care Unit of the Fermín Valdés Domínguez, a specialized institution to take care of the most complicated patients from Holguín and Las Tunas, since March 2020.
Although this northeastern territory is not among the most complicated in the country, it currently faces a complex situation by consistently reporting a high number of positive cases in the last two months and dispersal of the virus on the territory. For example, there are six open events in four municipalities and 256 active foci in all the health area, several of them described as very complex due to the extension in time and zones.
The provincial capital remains the most complicated with three events and 178 outbreaks, which is why measures have been increased to cut the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, including the health intervention to health workers, students of Medical Sciences and other risk groups, who have received three doses of the vaccine candidate Abdala.
Holguín is creating the conditions to begin the health intervention in people aged 60 years and over and those aged 40 to 59 years.
