The celebrations for the Cuban Culture Day on October 20 began in Holguín with a varied program of activities that involve the different artistic expressions.

María Emilia Rodríguez, head of programming at the Provincial Directorate of Culture of Holguín, told the Cuban News Agency that all the institutions in the sector made their contributions to elaborate a suitable bulletin board for all age groups.

Rodríguez also highlighted the participation of local creators and intellectuals in the celebrations.

Squares, parks, bookstores, schools and nightclubs will host exhibitions, conversations, historical debates, concerts and creative workshops in which the most genuine codes of Cuban culture and identity will prevail, she said.

Cultural options for the Holguin audience include recitals in the evenings from Wednesday to Friday, with the participation of soloists Nadiel Mejías, Yhamila Rodríguez and Ale Guevara, in the Benny Moré Hall, belonging to the Artistic and Literary Promoter (Artex), added Rodríguez.

Among the activities, she highlighted the presentation of the book Dice el musgo que brota, a unique compilation of its kind in the literary panorama of the Island, which comprises a selection of poems for children with sonnets, free verses, poetic prose, conceived by 30 Cuban authors.

With proposals for all ages and preferences, she said, the Day for the Cuban Culture in Holguín will extend to all municipalities, where activities were designed with local artistic talent.

The festivities are also dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the creation of the Eddy Suñol Theater, 205 years after the French Tomb and 80 years of the establishment of Moa as a city, located in mining areas of eastern Holguín.

Since August 1980, the National Culture Day was established on October 20 in commemoration of the first time the lyrics of the National Anthem were heard in Bayamo.
