Almost 22 years after the death of the Holguín writer Lalita Curbelo Barberán, artists from the territory gathered their works this Saturday in an exhibition at the Holguín Gallery as tribute to her literary work.
Cathedrals of Ants, an event organized by the Holguín Art Gallery, in collaboration with the Lalita Curbelo Cultural Center, constitutes every year a meeting point where poetry, art and memory meet with the aim to allow new generations to know and appreciate the legacy of Lalita Curbelo on Cuban culture.
"Under the name LiterArte" the exhibition is mostly made up of works by artists who are members of the YETY-Uneac project," said Juan Carlos Anzardo, president of the YETY branch in Holguín and member of Uneac.
Among the 23 works on exhibition are Romance azul, by Marlen Besil García; Resurrección, by Enrique Miguel Díaz Gelpi; Paisaje de El Portón, by Otto A. Torres; Adagio, by Juan Carlos Anzardo; Y dice una mariposa, by Alexander Andiarena; Ineludible narrativa, by Julio C. Cisneros Fuentes; and Los comedores de patatas, by Daniel Mora.
Anzardo highlighted in the words of the catalogue that "Lalita's literary work is closely linked to the visual arts since in addition to making drawings and within them a self-portrait, she also maintained a close relationship with artists from Holguín, such as Armando Gómez Peña, considered one of the founders of Holguín abstraction and who painted a work entitled Cathedrals of Ants, one of the writer's most important books."
