Gibara to Welcome International Film Festival

The International Film Festival of Gibara, to be held from July 1 to 7, is ready for another edition that will award filmmaking, music, visual arts, dance and theater.
Jorge Perugorría, president of the Festival, said at press conference that the event will take place in July for the only time, so that by 2019 it will be held in April as it is already traditional.

The actor expressed the desire of organizers that all the activities taking place during the event are known by the Cuban public, mainly from the eastern provinces. In this regard all the conditions are prepared to receive all those who wish share those days of activities.

 
Dedicated to children and adolescents, the current edition will pay a well-deserved tribute to the outstanding filmmaker and creator of the Humberto Solás festival through the screening of his films Memorias del Subdesarrollo and Lucía.

The tribute also includes a short film and the opening of an exhibition dedicated to his work, which highlights the affective bond that united Solás to Gibara, said Sergio Benvenuto, member of the organizing committee.

He pointed out as another novelty, the insertion of spaces dedicated to the culinary arts in collaboration with La Cueva restaurant and a workshop dedicated to children and adolescents.

During the event, the Lucía de Honor prize will be awarded to three outstanding artists of all times: the filmmaker Enrique Pineda Banet and actors Mirtha Ibarra and Salvador Wood.

Among the guests of the event is expected to attend again the outstanding actor and filmmaker Benicio del Toro, who will make a special presentation of the film Miedo and Asco en las Vegas, by Terry Gilliam, a classic film that reaches its 20 years in which he shared the leading role with Johnny Depp.

According to the program, the Festival also includes concerts of renowned Cuban musicians, such as the singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, who will open the festival, while the closing concert will be performed by the Argentine Fito Páez and Alaín Pérez. / ACN
